Full-time researcher in the Biomedical Technologies Division at UTARI assisting on research and development projects and technology commercialization, with a focus in the areas of solid mechanics and finite element analysis with emphasis on flexible and soft materials. Involved in the design, development, and testing of new technologies as well as supporting new grant/contract opportunities. Role may include assisting in establishing and developing collaborative partnerships, contributing to defining the research scope of the Division, providing some project management, and contributing to patentable ideas and patent applications. Activities are typically a combination of lab work (experimental and theoretical) and project management. General Requirements: Perform job duties under some direct supervision. Document work / keep accurate records. Present findings/results through both oral and written communication to internal and external customers. Able to multi-task, collaboratively work in interdisciplinary teams, work on projects independently. Maintain awareness of current technological advancements related to your field. Work with other units within UTARI and UTA as needed.
Design, perform numerical simulations, and fabricate prototypes of medical devices and systems related to current research focus of the division. Conduct research and development of in-house technologies for potential funding opportunities. Experimentation set-up and testing. Identify relevant funding opportunities; contribute to or lead writing efforts (proposals, publications, reports, presentations, etc.). Supervise junior staff, students, and interns. Participate in developing academic and industry collaborations. Perform other duties as assigned.
BS in Mechanical Engineering plus 8 years of relevant experience or MS in Mechanical Engineering plus five (5) years of relevant experience or PhD in Mechanical Engineering plus two (2) years of relevant experience.
PhD in Mechanical Engineering with strong background in solid mechanics, finite element analysis with emphasis on flexible and soft materials, mechanical design, and system integration.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: High proficiency in numerical simulation tools, such as ANSYS, COMSOL, and Matlab. Proficient with SolidWorks and other CAD design tools. Design for additive manufacturing and polymer molding. Experience in contributing to grant proposals and scientific manuscripts.
