Posting Summary: The UVA School of Medicine (SOM) Office of Medical Education seeks a Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program Manager to serve as the educational liaison and accreditation expert for the development and implementation of multiple continuing medical education activities. The Program Manager directs analysis, program format design, preparation of educational materials and program implementation. Educational formats include live conferences and seminars, enduring materials (print, CD-ROM, and web-based), ongoing series, and other hybrid activities that meet the needs of physicians and other healthcare professionals.
This position requires flexibility in work management, including weekend commitments for CME activities held in Charlottesville, throughout Virginia, and across the US. The Program Manager will work simultaneously on a variety of educational initiatives with multiple specialties from across the spectrum of medicine and healthcare that include post-doctoral, research, national and international conferences, innovative web-based curricula, ongoing series in leadership, and other related healthcare areas. The development of these educational activities requires interaction and discussions with high ranking faculty from the University of Virginia and other academic institutions in the US and abroad. Many of these activities have large budgets and seek financial support from outside sources (including pharmaceutical and medical device companies) to help underwrite the initiatives.
The CME Program Manager requires a working knowledge of educational theory, planning requirements and processes, and the ability to assess and meet the needs and expectations of the target audience to include University, State, and Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) regulations. Knowledge of Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Accreditation Elements is preferred. In-depth analysis of the cost-benefit ratios when approaching and developing these educational initiatives is a crucial element in this process. Successful and timely implementation of the UVA CME processes requires outstanding organizational, communication, and coordination skills in both the educational and logistical aspects of the project.
This position requires a Master's Degree, as well as two years of administrative experience in an academic environment. A minimum of two years education/curriculum design experience is preferred. Demonstrated ability to work within a multi-task environment under tight deadlines and strong interpersonal skills are required. Must be flexible to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed. In addition, some travel in support of educational programming and continued professional development is required. The successful candidate will possess an ability to adapt and adjust to changes, implement crisis management skills, and work positively with other staff with an appreciation for their expertise and efforts.
